Communion

Communion – a poem about remembering

Communion

I remember
as a child,
learning stories of the beginnings,
God’s care through generations,
the need for sacrifice.

I remember
short weeks ago
celebrating by lighted evergreen
the birth of Messiah,
Promise fulfilled.

I remember
as though it were today,
receiving Christ’s gift of Blood
cleansing my heart,
giving me hope.

I remember.
So today,
with others who believe,
I pause—Selah
I remember.
