On the 26th of each month I post on the Inscribe Writers Online blog at inscribewritersonline.blogspot.ca. We write to a suggested prompt about writing and faith. The encouragement and wisdom shared on this site cannot be measured – it is priceless!
In January of this year, we were asked,
“As you look ahead to your writing/publishing goals for the year, what is a new challenge or risk you want to take in your faith and career? How do you hope to hone your craft, expand your sphere of influence, s.t.r.e.t.c.h.?”
Many of the writers shared a verse or word from God that would be their focus for the coming year. I shared that usually, God gives me a characteristic to work on, to move me closer to His character each year, yet at this time I was getting nothing. Then I heard, “don’t worry about the missing pieces.” At the time, I took that to mean to rest in the Lord this year, knowing He loves me where I am and not just when I am striving to follow His leading. You can read that post here.
Fast forward a few weeks, and the “don’t worry about the missing pieces” took on a whole new meaning. My regular mammogram checkup showed another area of concern. So at this point, I made the final decision to have a bilateral mastectomy. You can read about that choice here, in my March 29, 2016 post.
Little did I know God meant not to worry about both physical and spiritual pieces that would be missing this year! How like Him, to plant the comfort that it was going to be alright before I knew I needed that thought. In fact, the first time I was diagnosed with breast cancer, He had just given me this verse:
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:13)
You will be reading this post as I recover from the surgery. I will be learning to live life “flat and fabulous”. God holds my hand, so I don’t need to worry about the missing pieces. God is present, and that makes all the difference!
