The Queen’s Sister

A couple days ago I shared a post honouring my Mom for Mother’s Day. But I have another Mom who deserves honour as well, so here’s to my Mother-in-Law.

Me, with my Mom-in-Law, Myrtle

Myrtle has always supported me, even when I was young and immature and probably not a good match for her son. But when we married, she said, “No matter what, you always have a place with us.” I knew I could count on her to be my “home”, and she has never failed to give encouragement.

Recently, Mom came to live with us. She has been without Dad for more than a dozen years, and we are so glad she chose to share life with us – especially because she still likes to cook and do laundry!

We live in a small town, where we pick up our mail at the post office. I had picked up my mail there for over six years and never knew the post-mistress’ name. Mom was here a week and knew the names of all the employees. Over the next few months, she would visit there, and learned all about them – so much so that she received an invitation to the post-mistress’ wedding!

That’s the kind of person Mom is. Outgoing. Caring. Interested. Active. She is an inspiration!

There is one trait of my Mom-in Law that I haven’t quite figured out yet. I think she is hiding a secret life. I saw a picture once that makes me think this… Could it be that she is the Queen’s sister?

Mom, monarch or not, I love you. You are royalty in my heart!
